Denver is wide open for SEO
July 15, 2008

Small businesses in Denver Colorado, relax: targeting local search markets is much easier than optimizing for a national SEO campaign. When you optimize your website for Denver search, you are narrowing the competition, increasing focus, and appealing to exact match keyword phrases.
Denver SEO vs. National SEO
Keeping it local narrows the competition
When optimizing a website for search, one of the first items on the agenda is defining your target audience. If your target audience is local or regional (not national), optimizing your site becomes much easier.
Imagine you are an auto shop in Denver. Using the Google Keyword Tool, we can find out that the search “Auto Shop” receives 210,000 searches a month, and a very tough playing field. Keep it local, and searches for ”Auto Shop Denver” gets approximately 590 searches a month. A general rule is: the more searches, the more competition you will have.
A few links can make a big difference
One of the most important factors in search engine optimization is “link building;” the process of getting other respected websites to link to your website. In a local SEO campaign, link building is not as big a process as in a national campaign: sometimes all it takes is a few good links to break through to the top page of search results.
Is your business a member of the Better Business Bureau? A local chamber of commerce or leads group? Getting these businesses to link to your website can be an immediate boost to your rank.
In a national SEO campaign, a few links aren’t going to make a dent. If you’re in a weak field, these links may make a huge impact on your rank.
